Joining us as a Technical Accountant on a 12 Month Fixed-Term contract, you will provide technical accounting support and guidance to National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) Financial Controllership team in achieving its objective of preparing various published financial information (principally statutory accounts), supporting the regulatory reporting process and the reporting process to National Grid group. Technical accounting support will also be provided to the wider NGED finance team, including the Chief Financial Officer.

 

This role is based in our Pegasus, Bristol or Warwick Office, where we encourage you to be present three days a week. However, we welcome you to spend more time in the office if that suits you better. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements to ensure this role aligns with your needs.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide technical accounting guidance for the NGED Group and act as the main liaison with the group technical team.
  • Support senior stakeholders with sector best practices and complex accounting/reporting matters.
  • Lead implementation of new accounting standards and disclosures across the group.
  • Act as NGED’s technical lead for the implementation of the new Rate Regulated Assets and Liabilities standard, working closely with National Grid and FP&A.
  • Ensure NGED remains compliant and up to date with evolving accounting standards and reporting requirements.
  • Lead technical discussions with external auditors, presenting company positions and supporting analysis.
  • Prepare documentation and analysis for technical accounting issues and specific transactions.
  • Own and maintain key accounting policies and judgements for consistency across NGED.
  • Complete submissions for National Grid’s half-year and year-end reporting.
  • Lead the annual impairment review process.
  • Support UK statutory reporting and prepare accounts for designated NGED subsidiaries.
  • Contribute to regulatory reporting and stay informed on developments affecting OFGEM submissions.
  • Engage with industry peers to benchmark and share best practices.
  • Act as co-ordinator on external auditor processes and manage reviews and feedback.
  • Own related SOX controls ensuring effective design and operation.

What You’ll Have:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with considerable post-qualification experience in a specialist technical accounting role.
  • Deep and broad expertise in IFRS, with the ability to translate complex standards into practical application
  • Proven track record of preparing high-quality technical accounting papers and statutory accounts (including group accounts).
  • Strong grasp of financial reporting processes and hands-on experience with monthly reporting cycles.
  • Experience working in large, complex organisations with multiple stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of SOX requirements and experience operating within a robust control environment.
  • Confidence in managing relationships with internal and external auditors.
  • Industry experience in energy or regulated environments (highly desirable but not essential).

What You'll Get:

Up to £82,000 dependent on experience.

 

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance with an on target of 15% (maximum 30%) and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
