Substation Operations Manager
Lead the network. Empower your people. Superpower your future.
How do you create a culture where safety isn’t a priority — it’s a value? Where people thrive, assets perform, and communities depend on the work you lead every single day? If that sounds like the kind of challenge you’re built for, this could be your next move.
We’re looking for an inspiring Operations Leader to take ownership of five high-voltage substation sites across Hertfordshire. You’ll lead a multi-disciplinary team of 8 direct reports and a wider group of around 20 talented engineers and specialists — creating an environment where people feel safe, supported, and empowered to perform at their best.
You won’t just be managing sites — you’ll be shaping the resilience of the electricity transmission network that keeps homes, hospitals and businesses powered 24/7. With a long-term asset replacement programme underway, you’ll play a pivotal role in modernising critical infrastructure to support Net Zero ambitions. From delivering multi-million-pound capital projects to overseeing preventative maintenance and rapid fault response, your leadership will directly influence the reliability of the network and the safety of everyone who works on it. Safety is non-negotiable. You’ll champion a proactive safety culture, ensure full compliance with ESQCR regulations and Occupier duties, and lead by example — because everyone deserves to go home safe, every day.
You’ll lead and develop a multi-disciplinary engineering team, embedding a strong safety culture while driving performance, accountability and continuous improvement across five sites. With full responsibility for operational delivery, budgets and capital programmes, you’ll ensure assets are maintained, projects are executed safely and efficiently, and stakeholders remain confident in the resilience of the network.
