Job Purpose

 

As a Senior Safety Specialist, you will work to improve the overall safety culture and ensure compliance by implementing and maintaining National Grid’s safety programs. You will work closely with field personnel and develop positive professional relationships with all levels of management, represented employees, and contractors during all phases of operation. This is a field position encompassing worksites throughout the assigned area and will require daily travel to work sites. This position supports our electric and operational support businesses.

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Investigate incidents, injuries, damage to property or other safety related concerns.
  • Cultivate safety and health skills and knowledge of frontline workers. 
  • Participate or lead Risk Assessment or Job Hazard Analysis teams.
  • Review contractor Health and Safety Plans and suggest improvements before project kickoff.
  • Act as subject matter expert for large project pre-job review, walk-through, planning.
  • Communicates safety and health information at employee meetings and safety committees.
  • Inspect new processes, materials, tools, substances, and equipment to identify hazards before an issue occurs.
  • Develop positive, professional relationships with field personnel, all levels of leadership, outside agencies and the public.
  • Note: This position is considered an "Essential Personnel" during storms and plays a vital role in emergency management. Availability is required and overtime is paid during this time.

Qualifications

 

  • Strong skills with organization, communication, and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Psychology, or related subject.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of all related OSHA regulations, DOT regulations, and applicable ANSI standards.
  • At least 4 years of progressive experience in a role where managing safety/health programs was 90% of job responsibility/accountability.
  • CSP, ASP, GSP, IH Certification. Will consider other BCSP certifications.  If no applications are received in a reasonable time frame that meet this requirement, consideration may be made for applicants who are studying for the certification or who already meet the requirements to take the test. Passing and receiving certification will be required within the first year of hire.
  • Excellent public speaking, training, and presentation skills.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills required.
  • Ability to develop and build strong relationships with key internal stakeholders.
  • Critical thinking skills are needed with the ability to quickly make decisions without having all the information and with little to no outside guidance.
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record is required.

Salary: $93,000.00 - $109,000.00 USD
