Job Purpose

The Manager role will be an Onsite position and can work out of either of our offices in Syracuse, NY, Buffalo, NY, or Albany, NY.      

As Manager in the Safety and Development Department, you will be responsible for managing a group of Supervisors providing additional oversite & mentorship to the NY Electric Operations management team along with providing additional directions and support to the associated field crews. This position carries a large amount of responsibility with a primary focus on Safety and Leadership support while also ensuring restoration and other emergency activities related to electric operations are safely and reliably addressed in accordance with set policies, standards and objectives within the operational and budget performance of the assigned area and multiple platforms. Due to the unpredictability of outages (due to weather, etc.), flexibility within this role is required and the incumbent must be prepared to cancel all personal plans if there are developing circumstances for a potential outage in a region.

Key Accountabilities

  • Promote the philosophy of safe team working and development across all activities in order to achieve set operational objectives and continuously improve performance.
  • Challenge existing processes and continuously seek ways to do things better in order to make a positive and significant change to the Safety Culture, drive greater efficiencies and improve overall productivity for the business.
  • Lead, motivate and develop a professional team, prioritize work and allocate resources in order to ensure restoration and other emergency activities are delivered in line with service quality standards and expectations and customer/business objectives.
  • Ensure reliability targets, work plan targets, capital work requirements and required maintenance work is completed on time, on budget and within scope.
  • Translate operational objectives into clearly defined business cases, costs or schedules in order to support achievement of service quality standards for reliability, safety and overall productivity.
  • Manage operational process activities in order to achieve high productivity, low costs and efficient work practices and to ensure compliance with National Grid policies and procedures (e.g. Safety, ERP, OPS-1).
  • Develop and manage ongoing relationships with Business Services to deal with external customers, Municipals, unions and public agencies in order to identify and deliver solutions that benefit both parties.
  • Direct the efforts and resources of the team in order to ensure safety, reliability, security and integrity consistent with company goals, objectives and policies in full compliance with existing and future government codes and regulations.
  • Provides the right environment for their team to canvass and champion better or new ways of doing things which ultimately improves service objectives.
  • Connect with the right people to ensure potential obstacles or issues are overcome and resolved as quickly and effectively as possible thereby meeting or exceeding operational and budget objectives.
  • Able to analyze the potential causes of a breakdown in service.
  • Able to influence and build relationships at senior levels, internally and externally in order to get things done and improve business relationships.
  • Determine and help set performance objectives and goals for Supervisors within this group.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years of knowledge and experience in Overhead, Underground Lines, and Operations.
  • Ability to effectively direct multiple disciplines and groups during storm restoration efforts.
  • Ability to travel overnight outside of your normal work area.
  • Ability to work overtime, including holidays/weekends as needed.
  • Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
    • Ability to create a high-energy team climate whereby team members are able to discuss relevant issues freely and where there is a strong emphasis on continuous improvement, questioning the value of every activity, and creating better solutions.
    • Demonstrates openness to change.
    • Negotiations, presentation, construction management, communication.

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field

Salary

 

$144,000 - $169,000 a year
