Job Purpose

 

To lead a team of Field Safety professionals in the electric energy focus across the state of New York. This role is responsible for the compliance and continuous improvement of safety and health regulations and policies that shape our safety culture, reduce injuries, and increase employee engagement. This role will provide technical support and subject matter expertise to the various lines of business and operating groups in their pursuit of safety excellence and ongoing growth of a business-wide safety culture. You will provide leadership and ongoing coaching and mentoring to a team of EHS professionals in their support of various lines of business.

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Team leadership – provides coaching and direction to a team of safety professionals driving team member engagement and retention.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to evaluate business risk to regulatory compliance, corrective action trends, incidents and assurance results and prescribes the necessary preventative or corrective measures using the hierarchy of controls.
  • Act as subject matter expert in regulatory compliance.
  • Provide team support for second level assurance reviews of risk controls.
  • Ensure that relevant safety and health information is communicated throughout the organization.
  • Support the Safety Governance structure for all functions.
  • Manage the activity to inspect new materials, tools, substances, processes, and equipment to identify hazards before an issue occurs.
  • Participate as site representative on corporate EHS program development committees or special projects as assigned.
  • Provide input on safety alerts, informational bulletins or other communications on various Hazard Control Programs and regulatory subjects as needed.
  • Educate site EHS team and affected lines of business on program changes and implementation requirements.
  • Schedule and assign Field Safety Reps to prioritize where an onsite safety presence is prudent or for storm restoration activities.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a safety & occupational health, industrial hygiene field, psychology or engineering field.
  • Thorough knowledge of all related OSHA regulations, DOT regulations, applicable ANSI standards, RMI guidelines.
  • 7-10 years of experience in the Safety and Occupational Health field with at least 90% of job responsibilities directly related to overseeing EHS.
  • Strong decision-making skills including ability to think critically and make quick decisions without all information at times.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to foster relationships with stakeholders, resolve issues quickly, manage team problems, and successfully cope with stress of high demand position.
  • Public speaking, training, and presentation skills, including a high comfort level in front of large groups.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Self-motivated with strong work ethic and ability to set and follow a daily/weekly schedule.
  • Flexibility to attend meetings and visit sites in the entire territory from Albany to Buffalo and north into Malone (vehicle allowance program included plus paid mileage).
  • Computer/software/app use proficiency.
  • Valid driver’s license with minimal moving violations.
  • CSP, ASP, GSP, IH Certification (primary preference).
  • CHST or OHST certification with solid relevant experience and education (secondary preference).
  • 2-3 years experience managing direct reports.

Salary: $123,000.00 - $144,000.00 USD
