Job Purpose

 

 

Responsible for the daily supervision and organization of assigned operations personnel in order to effectively and efficiently accomplish job tasks in line with departmental and National Grid requirements. Translates functional policy by managing day to day operations to drive greater efficiencies within their own team and ensure safety across processes, pipelines and people. Manages crews and is responsible for their productivity. Responsible for ensuring that safety and compliance procedures are followed.

Key Accountabilities

 

 

  • Ensure the safety, reliability, security and integrity of our gas customer’s premises as well as the Company’s distribution system, consistent with Company goals, objectives and policies, in full compliance with existing and future governmental codes and regulations.  Sound implementation of policies and procedures that ensure public safety, maximize customer satisfaction and fulfill statutory requirements while meeting or exceeding performance incentives
  • Protect the safety of the public, company property, and personnel through monitoring and enforcement of work rules, standards, and procedures for emergency response, leak investigation, and other scheduled work while remaining fully compliant and within budgetary limitations.
  • Supervise a culturally diverse workforce through coaching, counseling, and team building to effectively and efficiently accomplish job tasks.  Responsible for workplace safety to ensure safe working conditions are maintained through field inspection of work sites and equipment.
  • Participate in on-call or after hour supervisory duties.  Applicants should have quality labor relation skills in order to interpret contract language, resolve grievances and discipline cases, initiate and institute corrective action where necessary.  Maintain compliance with O.S.H.A., PSC, DOT regulations, and Operator Qualifications.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
  • Respond to on/off hours gas and/or outages and emergencies supporting GFO/CMS and National Grid as appropriate to other Company emergency response personnel, Emergency Response Agencies, Regulators, and the Police.

 

 

Qualifications

 

 

 

  • Support achievement of goals including operational targets, mandated objectives, budget goals, emergency response and safety.
  • Support continual development of union workforce by conducting Safety Assessments (ESD’s) and Compliance Assessments (CA’s) and by coaching, performance assessment and appraisal.
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent job-related experience in a related area with 5 or more years of related experience
  • Technically proficient within subject matter and demonstrated ability to help others to learn the business
  • Must have a good working knowledge of tools and systems within designated area, or demonstrated ability to be able to become proficient in tools and systems
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of National Grid’s policies and processes/procedures
  • Must have experience managing a team with the ability to build effective, respectful, working relationships
  • Encourage and empower others by offering help and advice to supervisors and service people

  • Provide insights and analysis to improve performance within the Operational area
  • Ability to focus on process work, maintaining a focus on the repair and replacement techniques, customer and community experience
  • Ability to coach and manage crews and help team deliver results
  • Communicate information in such a way that it resonates with others

Downstate NY Salary: $115,000 - $135,000 a year

Salary commensurate with location and experience 

 

Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company’s testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
