What You’ll Do

Our National Grid Corporate Income Tax Department consists of several functions including the US Income Tax Operations group for which this internship position would report under.  As an intern on the US Income Tax Operations team, you will have the opportunity to enhance your knowledge on various income tax operations and obtain an greater/ deeper understanding of this field. This internship would provide you with the exposure to tax accounting/compliance, financial reporting, and the fundamentals of the US tax system/ obligations as it relates to the company’s responsibilities. During your duration with us, you will be working alongside our Director, Managers and other analysts in this department assisting and supporting with monthly provision work and reconciliations, preparation of journal entries, update tax accounting files on a monthly basis and support with federal and state income tax audit requests/ returns.

 

Qualified applicants will work in a Hybrid format, and be kept to a maximum of 20 hours per week while school is in session with the possibility of more hours on school breaks and must commit to an internship experience of at least two years in duration.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Support with monthly provision work and reconciliations
  • Assist with preparation of journal entries
  • Populate tax provision and tax compliance software
  • Update tax accounting files on monthly basis
  • Maintaining tax calendar and keeping track of external and internal due dates
  • Aid in responding to federal and state income tax notices
  • Collaborate on the preparation of federal and state income tax returns
  • Research and ensure preparation of supporting information for federal and state income tax audit requests
  • Calculating and processing federal and state income tax payments
  • Other tax administrative tasks to assist the tax team

What You'll Need

  • Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time until the Spring 2026 Semester
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Accounting and/or Taxation
  • Accumulated 18 or more credits and be at least 18 years of age
  • Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States
  • Located within a commutable distance to the identified work location of Brooklyn, NY

 

Additional:

  • Prior Accounting/ Taxing experience is preferred but not required.
  • Proven background on Microsoft Excel including but not limited to (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, SUM,IF Functions, etc.)

Work Structure Overview

This Internship opportunity is classified as Hybrid, meaning in person work is required less than 4 days a week. To continue with our commitment of transparency, more information will be shared about your work model as we get closer to your start date and would be in accordance with National Grid policies.

Salary Range

$21.00 - $24.00 an hour (Undergraduate Student)

$28.00 an hour (Graduate Student)

 

Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year. Our Intern Program does not offer relocation, housing assistance, or public transportation reimbursement; however, we can provide a list of resources to utilize in making your arrangements.

 

Please note that as an Intern, you must reside within our existing footprint, which includes Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont. You must also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to your assigned primary office.
