National Grid is hiring a Colleague Communication and Engagement Specialist to help design and deliver colleague communications across the ED business. This role will be part of a team supporting the transformation of the NGED business.
We offer flexible hybrid working arrangements. We’d hope to see you in one of our base offices located in - Bristol, Gloucester, Cardiff, Birmingham or Pegasus at least two days per week.
Please note you must have a full UK driving licence and be flexible to travel to different sites within the South West region.
Interviews for this role will be held on week commencing 12th January 2026.
What you'll do
- Draft, implement and measure colleague communications and engagement plans for issues, projects and programmes within Electricity Distribution.
- Draft and edit messages and produce engaging multi-media content for business-wide and local employee communications channels including, Grid:home copy, Podcasts, Q&A materials, Team briefing packs, telephone and video scripts and presentations.
- Bring the purpose, vision and values to life for all colleagues, at all levels, in all roles, with the creation of engaging, insightful, informative and relevant multi-channel content.
- Work with the wider Colleague Communication & Engagement team to plan and prioritise activity, clarify appropriate messages, carry out effective measurement and work on campaign activities.
- Under the guidance of the Senior Colleague Communication & Engagement Manager work with appropriate business contacts to understand their employee communications requirements and priorities, taking the necessary steps to make sure that meaningful contact and involvement takes place at the appropriate level.
- Develop and manage the Colleague Communication & Engagement calendar to ensure alignment and consistency (air traffic control) of message and timely delivery among audiences, avoiding duplication and overload.
- Manage and develop colleague communication channels as required by ED’s Colleague Communications and Engagement Manager.
- Support the Senior Colleague Communication & Engagement Manager with the business leadership engagement programme, (including the leadership conferences, town halls and events), working on the delivery of content and organisation for the events and attending meetings when required.
- Work with the wider Corporate Affairs teams on campaigns, projects, announcements and issues, producing clear and compelling colleague communications content.
- Stay abreast of key colleague communication and engagement innovation and best practice
What you'll need
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Strong digital content and channel skills.
- Ability to script and edit simple in-house video’s (and podcasts).
- Ability to produce high quality content within tight timescales and under pressure.
- Creative and innovative and demonstrates the ability to adapt the content and style of communication messages to appeal to specific audiences – particularly field force colleagues
- Team player with excellent interpersonal skills, able to actively build and maintain strong working relationships at all levels within the designated business area.
- Self-starter, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrates the ability to identify and establish the communication needs of the business by digging deeper, asking probing questions and challenging initial responses.
- Ability to manage and prioritise competing communications challenges and issues.
- Able to listen and understand the business themes, trends or consequences of a situation, develop and implement appropriate employee communications plans through effective channels.
- Proven experience of working with senior managers within a large, global organisation with a multi-stakeholder environment.
- Experience of producing high quality content for a range of channels including digital, comfortable writing for the intranet and internal social media i.e.Viva Engage
- Proven ability to develop and implement colleague communications and engagement, plans and campaigns.
- Knowledge and experience of all aspects of the colleague communication mix, including objective/outcome setting, planning, channel usage, research and measurement.
- Experience of working on and delivering events, from logistics to content creation and where required working with third party suppliers.
- Experience of providing colleague communications support for issues and projects.
- Ability to translate financial, customer, HR and performance messages for internal, field-based audience.
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £48,000 - £55,000 per annum– dependent on capability.
