Our Gridtern Program provides current college students the ability to gain practical experience within the energy industry. Your summer will begin on Monday, June 15, 2026, and will be filled with meaningful work experiences, professional development, networking opportunities, community involvement, and most importantly, have fun!

Available Roles
Instrumentation & Regulation (Braintree, MA)
Our Instrumentation & Regulation (I&R) team collaborates with field operations personnel to ensure the safe and reliable installation, operation and maintenance of pressure regulators, instrument systems and gas conditioning equipment.
As a Gridtern this summer, you will work on various projects related to Pressure Regulation, Instrumentation, and Odorization. In Pressure Regulation, you will participate in the annual regulator station inspection, learn to rebuild key regulators, and attend relevant training sessions. In Instrumentation, you will calibrate transmitters, load and install Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), and gain insights into remote control applications. For Odorization, you will conduct tests with technicians, attend training, and learn about heating systems. You will also spend time with key departments, including Commercial Point, Gas Control, as well as with SCADA Support, while collaborating with Cape Technicians and the Construction team. Additionally, you will contribute to projects by inputting inspections and maintaining daily records. This internship provides a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field.
LNG Operations MA South (Dorchester, MA)
Our LNG Operations team is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the LNG MA South facilities, ensuring the reliable and safe delivery of natural gas during peak demand periods or as a backup during supply disruptions. This team operates and maintains the vaporization and vapor recovery systems, which are crucial for supplying the gas network. They oversee a variety of maintenance tasks, including servicing equipment, testing safety and control systems, and managing capital investment projects.
As a Gridtern, you will spend a significant amount of time shadowing the site's supervision, gaining insights into the plant's maintenance activities and project work. Additionally, you will undertake focused assignments, such as identifying and inventorying the site's critical spare parts and updating and improving the tagging of piping and valves. This internship will provide you with hands-on experience in LNG operations and a deeper understanding of the processes that ensure the safe and efficient delivery of natural gas.
What You’ll Need
- Availability to start on the program start date, June 15, 2026, and work full-time (40 hours a week) for the duration of the summer
- Must be registered as a full-time student and continue your education full-time through the Fall 2026 semester
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
- Majoring in: All Engineering disciplines, Environmental Sciences, Construction Management, Business Management or Energy Management
- Have accumulated 18 or more credits and be at least 18 years of age
- Possess work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (including CPT & OPT)
- Some Gridtern positions will require a valid US Driver’s license with a safe driving history that complies with National Grid’s Safe Driver policy. This qualification will be specified in the department specific Gridtern role(s) descriptions at point of interview

Salary Range
$23.00-$33.00 an hour
Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year. Our Gridtern Program does not offer relocation, housing assistance, or public transportation reimbursement for Gridterns; however, we can provide a list of resources to utilize in making your arrangements.
Please note that as a Gridtern, you must reside within our existing footprint, which includes Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont. You must also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to your assigned primary office.
