Job Purpose

Lead electricity system modeling and congestion analysis to support investment decisions, rate case development, business planning, & project development opportunities. Lead the preparation of reports of findings, illustrating data graphically and translating complex findings into written text to support key business decisions specific to the energy industry. Devise and evaluate methods and procedures for collecting and managing large complex data sets regarding wholesale energy markets operations. Responsible for monitoring energy industry statistics and follow trends in trade literatures pertaining to clean energy and wholesale electricity markets. Collect and analyze data for electricity markets to identify the key factors affecting electricity supply, product demand, and price. Seek and provide information to help National Grid, one of the largest investor-owed energy companies in the United States, determine company position in the marketplace, specifically regarding the competitiveness of company energy assets. Responsible for continuously improving in-house electricity and energy market models and develop frameworks for incorporating model and database updates ensuring they are fit for purpose. As part of company internal market analytics team, engage with various other internal teams and lead ad hoc energy market analysis and assessments to help the wider business understand the impacts of policy and the evolution of markets and technology on the energy system and on our assets. Analyze energy market, historical, and fundamental data to draw inferences and present results in a clear format to management and external customers. Lead the development and delivery of presentations of market model inputs and outputs, specific to the energy and electricity market, to senior executives and other stakeholders using market analysis, modelling, and assessments of market changes. Leverage energy and electricity market modelling skills to support business decision making and lead analysis on a range of clean energy topics related to the future of electric networks and markets.

Qualifications

Master’s degree, or foreign degree equivalent, in Energy and Earth Resources, Engineering, Economics, Energy Systems, Statistics, Data Science or related technical field and 3 years of experience in a related occupation required. The position also requires: 3 years experience with programming including Python; 2 years experience with transmission system and power flow fundamentals; 2 years of experience developing and employing market models, including commercial production cost modeling software (ProMOD, PLEXOS, Aurora, Gridview, GE MAPS, or PSO/Enelytix). Less than 10% travel required domestically within the U.S. to attend or speak at conferences and internationally to the United Kingdom for internal team meetings. Telecommuting may be permitted. When not telecommuting, must report/appear into/at the National Grid offices in Boston, MA. $148,512 - $148,512 per year.
