Business Unit:  National Grid Ventures
Requisition Number:  8848

About us

National Grid lies at the heart of a transforming energy system, spanning the US and UK. Our businesses supply gas and electricity, safely, reliably and efficiently to millions of customers and communities. But we also drive change through engineering innovation and by incubating new ideas with the power to revolutionize our industry.

National Grid Ventures (NGV) is the competitive division of National Grid plc, one of the largest investor-owned energy companies in the world. It operates outside of National Grid’s core regulated businesses in the US and UK where it develops, operates and invests in energy projects, technologies and partnerships to accelerate the development of our clean energy future.

National Grid Ventures’ diverse portfolio of energy businesses across the US, UK and Europe includes sub-sea electricity interconnectors, liquefied natural gas, battery storage, as well as conventional generation assets on Long Island.

National Grid Ventures is hiring a Lead Commercial Analyst to support its LNG business and new opportunities related to fuel supply for power generation. This hybrid position can sit in either our Brooklyn, NY, Waltham, MA, or Boston, MA offices.

Job Purpose

National Grid Ventures owns and operates Providence LNG, a critical LNG peak shaver with storage, vaporization, and liquefaction facilities, which provides essential winter reliability for gas customers across New England. The Lead Commercial Analyst will play a central role in the commercial management and optimization of Providence LNG while also supporting gas supply strategy for new power generation development opportunities. This role is not only analytical and strategic, but also operationally hands-on, helping to ensure that core commercial activities are executed effectively and that the business is managed smoothly on a daily basis.

On a day-to-day basis, the Lead Commercial Analyst will support a wide range of commercial responsibilities for the LNG business, such as tariff and contract administration, commercial reporting and analysis, and commercial issue resolution, while simultaneously identifying and pursuing opportunities to enhance the value of the business and improve profitability. At the same time, the role will be a key contributor to broader strategic initiatives in LNG and gas supply, providing analytical insight to inform commercial decisions, contract negotiations, and long-term planning. This role will work closely with a cross-functional team that includes colleagues in Operations, Asset Management, Regulatory, Legal, and Finance, and is well suited for a commercially minded energy professional who is excited by both the day-to-day realities of running a business and the broader strategic thinking required to evaluate opportunities, make investment decisions, and shape future growth.

  • Assist in the development, negotiation, and administration of commercial agreements with customers, suppliers, transport providers, and other external counterparties
  • Monitor market, regulatory, and policy developments affecting LNG operations, natural gas supply, and project economics, and translate findings into actionable commercial insights
  • Prepare reporting documents, presentations, and decision-support materials for internal stakeholders, including executive-level audiences

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of relevant experience in energy, utilities, LNG, natural gas, commodities trading, consulting, or related fields
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, including the ability to translate market and commercial inputs into insights for decision-making
  • Familiarity with US natural gas markets, gas transportation and storage concepts, and energy commercial structures preferred
  • Experience supporting commercial transactions, contract development, or business case development preferred
  • Strong written, oral, and visual communication skills; experience preparing executive-level papers and presentations is a strong plus
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative and proactive, with the ability to work effectively across teams and functions
  • Comfortable in agile environments that require creative thinking and charting new paths
