Job Purpose

The purpose of this position in the Vegetation Management program at National Grid is to ensure the effective implementation and delivery of the program across New York. This includes managing regional level projects and overseeing the program with a strategic focus on customers, communities, government agencies, and regulators.

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Respond to customer and community concerns related to Vegetation Management (VM) Programs on both Transmission and Distribution.
  • Work with government agencies, such as DOT, DPS, and DEC, to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and communicate vegetation management plans and procedures to community stakeholders.
  • Provide professional, technical, and legal input to support other NGRID strategies and objectives as a subject matter expert through inter-departmental coordination.
  • Participate in or lead project teams for divisional or companywide VM initiatives.
  • Deliver and promote public VM education through external public relations.
  • Address customer inquiries and concerns, maintain effective relationships with local officials, and attend various customer, community, and municipal meetings as required.
  • Provide off-hour coverage for routine emergencies, storm events, public meetings, and customer commitments. Perform other assigned duties.

 

 

Qualifications

•  Minimum of a two-year degree in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Forestry, or a related natural resources field from an accredited school, or related Line Clearance field experience.

•  Arborist Certification from the International Society of Arboriculture.

•  Ability to support significant storm events through extended workdays, overnight shift coverage, etc.

•  Willingness to travel to alternate locations/jurisdictions as required to support these events.

•  Ability to traverse rough terrain (foot patrols) in remote locations while performing field crew visits and supporting field storm response.

•  Highly preferred working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR Part 1910.269 Line Clearance Tree Trimming Operations, American National Standard A-300 & Z-133 National Electrical Safety Requirements for Arboricultural Operations.

•  Self-motivated with strong public speaking skills.

•  Demonstrated effective decision-making, leadership capabilities, and fiscal management.

•  Possession of a valid driver's license.

•  Desired work-related experience in utility line clearance, contractor management, fiscal accountability, managerial decision-making, public speaking, and natural resource field experience.

Salary: $99,000 - $117,000
