National Grid is hiring a Program Manager in New York Emergency Planning – Support. This role can sit in any of our New York office locations.
Job Purpose
The New York Emergency Planning Program Manager for Emergency Planning Support is responsible for managing and strengthening core operational and managerial functions within the New York Emergency Planning organization. This role establishes and oversees processes for tracking and reporting departmental performance measures and serves as the primary administrator for National Grid’s third‑party weather service provider. The Program Manager collaborates closely with Emergency Planning leadership to maintain Emergency Response Organization (ERO) readiness, support business continuity efforts, enhance storm readiness tools, manage After Action Review processes, and maintain key communication platforms. This position plays a central role in supporting New York’s emergency preparedness, response readiness, and overall departmental objectives.
What You'll Do
Duties and Activity Expectations
- Performance Measures & Reporting
- Develop, implement, and manage systems for tracking and reporting New York Emergency Planning departmental performance measures.
- 3rd Party Weather Services Coordination
- Serve as the primary administrator for National Grid’s third‑party weather service provider.
- Coordinate directly with National Weather Service meteorologists who provide updates to National Grid.
- Emergency Response Organization (ERO) Management
- Work with New York Emergency Planning function leads to validate and maintain ERO assignments.
- Update emergency response roles and manage electronic notifications through the Everbridge database.
- Partner with the NY Manager of Exercise and Training to maintain key performance indicators ensuring accuracy and readiness across all response roles.
- Business Continuity & Storm Support
- Coordinate Business Continuity planning activities across the organization.
- Provide operational and logistical support for the Storm Manager Tool.
- This will require working with the Cross Jurisdictional Emergency Planning Support lead
- After Action Review (AAR) Program
- Manage the full lifecycle of After Action Reviews, including documentation, tracking, reporting, and identifying program improvement opportunities.
- Communications Platform Management
- Develop, maintain, and optimize internal and external communication channels, including:
- SharePoint sites,
- National Grid’s internal employee digital workspace/intranet (Grid:Home),
- Microsoft Teams channels.
- Ensure these platforms support timely information sharing, organizational awareness, and operational transparency.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support New York emergency preparedness, emergency response readiness, and departmental strategic objectives.
Qualifications
- Required - bachelor’s degree or certificate in emergency management or teaching / training credentials or 3+ years of equivalent utility experience
- 3+ years of experience working for or with an electric and gas utility required
- 2+ years of management and or supervisory experience preferred
- Ability to work beyond normal scheduled business hours as needed and in support of emergency response
- Ability to travel throughout the upstate and downstate New York National Grid Service Territory with occasional travel requirements outside of New York.
Salary
- Upstate - $73,000 - $86,000 a year
- Downstate - $88,000 - $104,000 a year
