National Grid is hiring a Manager, Substation Worker, Project Management for Massachusetts. This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to one of our locations
Job Purpose
As the Major Projects Safety Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of field Safety Professionals, driving the wider team towards a generative safety culture, and implementing the department safety strategies and initiatives. You will provide leadership and clear direction to the team that ensures consistent ways of working and ensuring first line safety compliance across all Major projects which include Transmission, Substation, D-Line, and Civil construction. This includes ensuring field compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations, industry standards, and company safety policies. This role will work closely with project teams to ensure proper Safety planning during the development of projects and ensure compliance against plan during execution. The position will oversee a team supporting construction projects across the New England region.
Key Accountabilities
• Provide leadership, technical expertise, process and procedure interpretation, and direction to a team of field Safety Professionals to ensure that high standards of safety and compliance are consistently followed.
• Manage a team of Safety Professionals who perform field observations, participate in pre-construction project planning and bid reviews, perform incident investigations, participate in safety committees, deliver contractor onboarding, review contractor Health and Safety Plans, and prepare safety material.
• Drive the department strategic safety strategy which includes short and long-term initiatives aimed at driving strong safety performance across all PM&C delivered projects.
• Monitor safety KPI’s and processes and evaluate safety performance for both internal and contracted crews. Proactively monitor trends and recommend action plans and programs to improve safety performance.
• Collaborate with construction management and other key project stakeholders to develop department and project safety plans to support construction projects.
• Evaluate work methods and training programs to ensure consistency and alignment with safety rules and human performance elements.
• Maintain department safety-related policies, programs, procedures and records.
• Lead and participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA’s) and Incident Analyses (IA’s) in partnership with construction.
• Develop and present safety briefings and prepare material for safety meetings.
• Participate in department safety meetings and share insights and best practices.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or related technical field or 5+ years of related work experience preferred.
• 7+ years’ experience in industrial hygiene or safety or supervising or managing a front-line, field, or line organization.
• Strong knowledge of Federal, State, OSHA, local, and company safety rules and regulations.
• Preferred experience in utility related field and understanding of electrical principles and the hazards associated.
• Successful completion of a board safety certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or ability to complete certifications.
• Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) a plus.
• Valid Driver's License.

Salary - $152,000 - $179,000
