Job Purpose

Provide leadership and direction for assigned Distribution Design districts and/or programs. The role ensures design supervisors and their teams have the resources, training, and accountability to deliver accurate, cost-effective, and timely construction designs. The Manager drives consistency, builds relationships with municipalities and customers, and partners internally to align design performance with National Grid’s safety, reliability, and customer commitments.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide leadership and coaching to design supervisors, ensuring they effectively manage represented design staff and deliver accurate, buildable work products.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for municipal, customer, or cross-department issues requiring management-level engagement.
  • Oversee performance across assigned districts or programs by holding supervisors accountable for meeting goals and implementing improvement plans where necessary.
  • Ensure supervisors maintain consistent application of design standards, processes, and tools across their teams to achieve compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Partner with stakeholder departments (e.g., Operations, Asset Management, Customer, and Construction) to ensure design deliverables meet the needs of the business, align with capital and reliability plans, and support customer need dates.
  • Collaborate with other Managers to balance workload, share best practices, and deliver on jurisdictional priorities.
  • Drive employee engagement by fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-performing culture across supervisor teams.
  • Provide leadership support during storm restoration and emergency response activities, ensuring design resources are effectively deployed.
  • Manage labor relations at the supervisor level, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements and maintaining constructive relationships with union leadership.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Demonstration of a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with company personnel.
  • Strong leadership skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Master’s degree or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • 5–8+ years of experience in electric utility distribution design, engineering, or operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing supervisors or multi-site teams.
  • Strong knowledge of distribution system design and construction practices, with familiarity in standards (NESC, NEC, OSHA).
  • Ability to influence outcomes, manage through others, and resolve escalated issues with external stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with proven ability to engage across unionized workforces, management, and municipalities.
  • Proficiency with relevant tools and systems (Microsoft Office, GIS, SAP, STORMS).
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.

Salary: $174,000 - $205,000
