National Grid is hiring a Political & Regulatory Officer. This hybrid position will sit in on our Washington, DC office.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Vice President – Head of US Government Affairs, the PAC, Political & Regulatory Officer will manage National Grid's Political Action Committee (PAC), coordinate political compliance and regulatory response activities, and lead internal communications for the Federal Government Affairs team.

 

The Government Affairs team partners closely with the Public Policy and Stakeholder Engagement teams in the Public Affairs & Policy Center of Excellence (COE) to set strategic public policy and advocacy direction within Corporate Affairs.

 

This Officer is responsible for managing National Grid’s PAC strategy and functions, and for coordinating activities and reporting around political compliance. The role will also coordinate all responses and submissions to federal agency or Congressional requests for information and regulatory proposals, and support all funding or project applications and award compliance by the business. In addition, this role is responsible for all policy updates and standard communications for internal distribution by the Government Affairs team. The Officer will serve as a key resource for ensuring that National Grid's political activities and federal agency engagements align with corporate objectives and ethical standards.

Key Accountabilities

PAC Strategy and Management:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for National Grid’s PAC, ensuring alignment withcorporate advocacy objectives and compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Oversee the administration of the PAC, including fundraising, contribution disbursement, and compliance reporting, ensuring transparency and adherence to legal standards.

Political Compliance Coordination:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal teams regarding political compliance requirements, providing guidance and support to ensure adherence to all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate training programs for employees on political compliance, ethics, and the role of the PAC, fostering a culture of compliance within the organization.

Regulatory Response Management:

  • Strategically coordinate National Grid’s responses to federal agency and congressional requests for information, ensuring timely and accurate submissions that reflect the company’s positions and interests.
  • Maintain a comprehensive tracking system for all regulatory proposals and requests, ensuring that relevant stakeholders are informed and engaged in the response process.

Internal Coordination and Communication:

  • Facilitate communication across internal teams to ensure that all political activities and compliance requirements are well understood and effectively managed.
  • Collaborate with the Government Affairs and Public Policy teams to align PAC activities with broader advocacy strategies and objectives.
  • Provide timely internal leadership updates on new federal policy developments and draft and manage regular company wide updates on key policy actions.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments that may impact National Grid’s political and compliance activities, providing timely updates and analysis to internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare reports summarizing PAC activities, compliance status, and responses to regulatory inquiries, offering insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.

Ethical and Transparent Engagement:

  • Ensure that all PAC and political activities comply with ethical standards, company policies, and applicable regulations, fostering a culture of transparency and accountability.
  • Act as a resource for best practices in political engagement and compliance, ensuring that National Grid maintains a strong reputation in the public sphere.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in political action committee management, public policy, or regulatory compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of corporate affairs principles, regulatory processes, and compliance requirements related to political activities.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce under deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence diverse stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess trends and evaluate the impact of political and regulatory initiatives.
  • Experience in developing and implementing successful compliance strategies and training programs related to political engagement.
  • Knowledge of corporate social responsibility principles and practices related to political action and stakeholder engagement.

Salary

$108,000 - $127,000 a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
