Job Purpose

The Load Forecasting & Analytics team produces electric and gas forecasts for National Grid. As a Senior Forecaster, you will develop long-term natural gas demand forecasts for our U.S. service territory and collaborate with internal stakeholders including Supply, Engineering, Regulatory, Strategy, Finance, and others. You will also support and respond to information requests from regulatory bodies for rate cases and other proceedings related to the gas load forecast. In this role, you will ensure forecasts account for emerging technologies, customer programs, policy changes, and legislation in the rapidly evolving energy landscape.

Key Accountabilities

•    Develop long-term gas load forecasts using econometric and statistical methods; conduct additional analyses as needed.
•    Integrate the impacts of distributed energy resources (DERs), emerging technologies, and policy initiatives (e.g., building electrification) into gas load forecasting models.
•    Work independently with guidance, presenting and defending results to internal and external stakeholders, including both technical and non-technical audiences.
•     Maintain and improve forecast processes and documentation to ensure efficiency, transparency, and reliability.
•    Provide expert testimony before regulators, defend forecasts, and respond to regulatory data requests in rate cases and other proceedings.
•    Collaborate with internal stakeholders (supply procurement, system engineering, pricing, finance, regulatory, and strategy teams) to align forecast methodology with business needs.
•    Stay current on policies, regulatory requirements, market trends, and industry standards affecting customer energy usage and technologies. 

Qualifications

 

•    A Bachelor’s degree (Master’s or PhD strongly preferred) in forecasting, economics, statistics, applied analytics, engineering, or related quantitatively rigorous field.
•    3 or more years of relevant energy industry experience in a regulated setting with direct interaction with regulators preferred.
•    Demonstrated experience in econometric or statistical forecasting/modeling required; prior energy load forecasting experience strongly preferred.
•    Familiarity with National Grid’s operations and the regulatory environment preferred.
•    Experience analyzing or forecasting distributed resources (e.g., energy efficiency, demand response, electrification of heat) preferred.
•    Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to testify before regulators and explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Expertise in statistical programming software such as Python, or R is required. Advanced SQL skills preferred. Experiences with Git/Bitbucket, Azure, Databricks is preferred. Advanced Excel skills preferred.
