Job Purpose
The Manager, Digital Business Strategist role will oversee a team of Digital Business Strategist who are responsible for supporting the business and operations work stream within a multi-disciplinary digital product team structure. The strategists partner closely to execute several activities, such as analyzing the internal and external environment, defining the vision, identifying future state capabilities and use case, assessing gaps, building the value case, informing change management plans, etc. For more critical products, the manager themselves may serve as this Digital Business Strategist as a “working Manager”.
The manager will also serve as the lead for relevant products during quarterly Program Increment (PI) Planning sessions. This can include, but is not limited to, preparing the proposed capabilities to be delivered for the upcoming quarter, participating in the respective sessions, challenging assumptions regarding feasibility, value, strategic fit. The Manager will also ensure that the products which it’s team is focused on shall be delivering the capabilities requested by the business, within approved budgets and on appropriate timelines.
The scope of this role will be within the New York Electric Network Operations Product Line. The product line is focused on optimizing our control center operations as well as network utilization and flexibility to meet customer and regulatory demands. Key products in this portfolio include the transmission energy management system (EMS), advanced distribution management system (ADMS), distributed energy resource management system (DERMS), and the meter data services (MDS) suite.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead business capability assessment, design, alignment and road mapping for products by working closely with key stakeholders
- Construct and/or oversee business cases development, including value projections and detailed investment estimates; ensuring these are aligned with product definition
- Track objectives and key results to assess benefit realization of products
- Proactively identify risks and support product teams in designing and executing experiments to increase confidence in business case assumptions
- Challenge product specific assumptions regarding feasibility, scalability, and business value for proposed features/capabilities
- Ensure teams are delivering capabilities that align to approved business cases, within sanctioned budgets and at desired times
- Serve as first point of contact for product reporting
- Support business/operational teams by participating in Agile sprints as needed
- Support definition of future-state operational solutions (process, org change), including detailed current state-process and future-state process documentation
- Accountable for change mgmt. and product roll-out plan, with help from the change mgmt. team as needed
- Provide support to product and technical teams (e.g., RFP support, stakeholder mgmt., prioritization, value alignment, IT governance, IT PMO)
- Support preparation of materials for key stakeholder readouts and regulatory engagements
- Work closely with New England and IT colleagues to coordinate feature/capability delivery across Jurisdictions
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Ability to assess and document current state operations, identify customer/user pain points, and help translate business needs into product requirements
- Ability to design future-state processes and operations that address user frictions, including articulating any changes needed to reach the future-state process
- Ability to design and run experiments to test and refine business assumptions
- Ability to build and refine a product business case, including benefits (financial, non-financial, strategic) and costs
- Knowledge of digital product implementation fundamentals and digital ways of working
- Experience in Agile product or project management
- Ability to execute change management and product roll-out plan, including DiLOs, marketing, communications plan, user acquisition strategy, etc.
- For certain products: Ability to perform data analytics (includes designing and building data dashboards) and communicate meaningful insights from data
- Ability to create and present materials to senior stakeholders from different orgs
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, technology, engineering or relevant field
- 7-10 years relevant business experience, such as product management, transformation, and strategic business planning
- Experience delivering technology projects from an operational perspective, preferably within the electric utility operations space
- Experience developing financial modeling and benefits/value cases
- Experience in defining, testing, and refining product assumptions
- Experience around digital product delivery and understanding of best practices for technology development, including agile product or project management
- Ability to communicate and work with cross-functional stakeholders, including ability to comprehend and explain highly complex information to a less technical audience
- Strong desire and propensity to lead, motivate and develop future talent
- Excellent analytical problem solving and strategic thinking skills

Downstate NY: $167,000 - $197,000
Massachusetts: $156,000 - $184,000
