National Grid is hiring a Lead HR Business Partner. This hybrid position can sit in either our Waltham, MA, Brooklyn, NY, Albany, NY or Syracuse, NY office.
Job Purpose
The Lead Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) role will be an integral part of the IT&D HR team and broader Group Functions HR team. The successful candidate will bring high energy, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record of implementing strategic people plans with a passion for talent management. The HRBP should have the ability to be both strategic and operational, owning the people plan aligned to the function’s objectives, as well as managing front-line issues through to resolution. This role will play a critical part in creating and supporting high-performing teams, driving an inclusive culture, and supporting engagement across IT & Digital.
In this role, you will establish yourself as a go-to strategic HR partner with the IT leaders you support. You will work closely and collaboratively across our HR Centers of Excellence (employee relations, talent management, reward, recruiting strategy, and professional development) to provide the necessary people support for business success. The HRBP will support business leaders in anticipating their short-, medium-, and long-term talent, leadership, and organizational effectiveness requirements to deliver their objectives.
Key Accountabilities
- Coaching & Advising: Act as trusted advisor, coaching and advising leaders and employees on various components impacting employee experience, including employee development, reward and recognition, annual processes, capability building, employee relations concerns, performance management, and HR policies.
- Set People Strategy: Work with the business area to translate HR strategy into clear objectives that are aligned to the future needs and future goals of the business area in order to provide accurate and timely support that enables them to achieve their goals.
- Project/Process Management: Ensure operational excellence in HR strategic initiatives, including leadership development, succession planning, workforce planning, inclusion and diversity, talent analytics, engagement surveys, action planning, and overall process improvements.
- Deliver people solutions for business: Work with a range of specialist colleagues within the HR team and with the Senior HR Business Partner to provide tailored, best practice solutions to business problems. Proactively seek opportunities to build their knowledge of their customer’s business and requirements to provide tailored ‘fit for purpose’ advice.
- Organization Design: Partner with leaders on organization design from challenging case for change through delivery of any organizational changes
- Change Leadership: Serve as a motivator for change, working with the People Communications team to develop and communicate solutions related to organizational design, development, and change management. Demonstrate and encourage consistency with our values (Do the Right Thing, Find a Better Way, and Make It Happen).
- Strategic Projects: Take the lead on key strategic projects and activities (e.g., Inclusion & Diversity, Talent Management, and Performance Management) within the IT function.
- Analysis: Analyze key themes, trends (internal and external), and performance metrics to identify how different scenarios may impact the business and make recommendations for moving forward.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience as an HR Generalist/HRBP or in a business function, ideally with experience supporting information technology.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to partner with stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills, capable of building trust.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to adapt content/style based on the audience.
- Demonstrated ability to assemble complex ideas, issues, and observations into clear and simple explanations.

New England MA $123,000- $145,000 a year
Downstate NY $132,000 - $155,000 a year
Upstate NY $110,000 - $129,000 a year
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
