Job Purpose
National Grid’s Upstate New York Environmental Compliance, Licensing and Permitting group is seeking a full-time position to support a variety of tasks. The role holder will be responsible for managing National Grid’s environmental compliance, licensing and permitting activity for operations and capital projects to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal environmental requirements. This includes ensuring applicable local, state, and federal environmental requirements are reviewed, communicated and implemented for high value, complex activities, including project initiation, design and construction.
Key Accountabilities
- Inspect and investigate sources of pollution to protect the public and environment and ensure conformance with Federal, State, and local regulations and ordinances.
- Examine permits, licenses, applications, and records to ensure compliance with licensing requirements.
- Prepare written, oral, tabular, and graphic reports summarizing requirements and regulations, including enforcement and chain of custody documentation.
- Determine the nature of code violations and actions to be taken, and issue written notices of violation; participate in enforcement hearings as necessary.- Prepare, organize, and maintain inspection records.
- Verify environmental compliance for large construction projects- Interview individuals to determine the nature of suspected violations and to obtain evidence of violations.
- Research and keep informed of pertinent information and developments in areas such as NYSPSC Article VII Regulations and regulations.
- Posess a strong sense of purpose in your work.
- Review electric, gas and facility capital improvement projects and modifications to evaluate potential impacts on the environment and the need for regulatory permits and/or authorizations.
- Oversee National Grid’s field operations, including the management and documentation of site visits, to monitor and facilitate compliance with applicable local, state, federal and company requirements.
- Develop and maintain close working relationships with Operations, Engineering, Construction and other personnel to share best practices and communicate business decisions.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding current and proposed federal, state and local regulations and National Grid’s Environmental Procedures to ensure National Grid is compliant with environmental legislation and regulations.
- Train and motivate specific corporate-based personnel to comply with all applicable federal, state and local environmental regulations, and National Grid’s Environmental Procedures. This includes providing technical guidance, support and coaching to share knowledge and develop technical understanding of environmental requirements.
- Navigate National Grid’s internal software and track project milestones.
- Successfully manage project permitting.
- Effectively communicate with peers and regulators.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders (both external and internal).
- Promote a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and efficient resource utilization to meet project goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering/Science, Environmental Planning and relevant industry experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant industry practice, standards and legislation.
- Knowledge of current trends within the industry and developments in legislation or regulation.
- 2+ years related environmental experience.
- Extensive and significant knowledge of environmental licensing and permitting regulatory requirements.
- Particular knowledge of New York State Regulations preferred.

Salary: $92,000 - $108,000
