National Grid is hiring a Lead Engineer, Electrical Planning and Design for Massachusetts. This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to one of our locations
Job Purpose
Working on the development and implementation of National Grid’s Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS), which is an exciting new way for National Grid to manage and support the integration for high volumes of renewable energy connected across the service territory. This role will be serving to support the development of that system and its implementation in Massachusetts. The successful candidate will develop the tool for control and monitoring of assets through the DERMS platform, aligning with the company’s Future Grid plan submitted under the Massachusetts Electric Sector Modernization Plan (ESMP). Includes development of communication pathways, control schemes, and equipment to implement, as well as project management toward connection of DERMS enabled facilities.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop system to monitor and control National Grid and customer owned assets (such as solar PV facilities) through the DERMS platform, with the intent of system automation to dynamically adjust assets in response to changing system conditions.
- Leverage previously established project work and research to scale DERMS capabilities.
- Support integration of DERMS into the distribution Control Center equipment and processes for effective DER operation.
- Align with developments with the DER markets and DERMS technology.
- Develop strategically prioritized plan for implementation of DERMS platform products in a logical and efficient manner.
- Develop project schedule and collaborate with internal stakeholders and implementation teams
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders in order to share best practice and ensure efficient information sharing. In particular, working closely with DERMS Investigation Engineer who will be developing the technical implementation.
- Keep up to date with market/regulatory developments within own discipline in order to ensure the optimization of best practice for National Grid.
- Challenge existing ways of working and continuously seek ways to do things better in order to drive greater efficiencies within assigned area.
- Promote and implement procedural best practice in order to ensure all working practice (and where relevant, health and safety standards) are compliant with National Grid policies and regulatory requirements.
- Proactively build and maintain internal and external networks in order to penetrate, absorb, and apply best practices.
- Test and challenge existing procedures and highlight areas for improvement in order to ensure they are robust.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Able to proactively collaborate amongst team members to achieve business objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Minimum 5 years' relevant and progressive experience
- Technical and functional proficiency in SAP preferred
- Strong project management, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Effective collaboration and partnership capabilities
- Background in utility service business activities and projects preferred
- Electrical engineering background in utility industry preferred
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Past experience with DERMS and/or utility scale controls/communications preferred

Salary - $150,000 - $176,000
