Job Purpose
This position is responsible for supporting the Commissioning & Energization Process for all primary Transmission and Distribution substation equipment.
Key Accountabilities
- Energization and Coordination: Ensure safe substation energizations without impacting customers or operations, serving as the primary interface with Field Operations, Engineering, Project Management, Contractors, and Dispatch for all related activities.
- Project Management: Manage multiple projects simultaneously, assisting with project estimating, economic analysis, and maintaining project timelines and budgets.
- Technical Support and Problem Resolution: Provide technical support for the operation and maintenance of apparatus, resolving technical issues and assisting in developing long-range maintenance philosophies.
- Data Management: Ensure all project data, including nameplate data for new equipment, is entered into the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for maintenance tracking.
- Testing and Compliance: Ensure substation equipment is installed and tested per National Grid Testing and Commissioning Procedures. Review testing results and update relevant documentation, including Op-Diagrams and EMS 1-lines.
- Project Support: Assist with transmission and distribution substation projects, including scope, design criteria, construction review, and integration of deliverables (drawings, test data) into National Grid systems.
- Planning and Oversight: Coordinate energization planning, site visits, testing, job walkthroughs, and punch list preparation/completion. Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with engineering standards.
- Engineering Solutions: Design, develop, modify, and evaluate systems and processes to support company objectives, recommending alternative engineering solutions as needed.
- Acknowledgment of mandatory storm duty assignments.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Effective people management and communication skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent education and experience, with a minimum of ten years of relevant experience in utility engineering and operations.
- Understanding of the company's business, relevant policies, and applicable federal, state, and local laws, including the National Electric Codes. Familiarity with NEC, IEEE, ANSI, NESC, SATM, ISO, EPA, ASTM, and ASME standards.
- Proficient in using personal computers and automated tools, capable of producing technical reports, analysis, and documentation. Knowledge of substation construction, maintenance techniques, and utility system practices.
- Capable of analyzing apparatus test data and troubleshooting technical issues.
- Knowledge of 3-phase power system theory for both static and dynamic systems.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively in high-pressure situations.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and work cross-functionally, understanding requirements and presenting alternatives and recommendations.
- Ability to work in energized stations, carry 50 pounds of equipment, and mobility in and around substations.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel outside company territory.

Salary: $140,000 - $165,000
