Job Purpose

Responsible and accountable for managing a portfolio of complex capital projects in the Downstate NY region, which will allow for the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to existing and future customers. 

Such projects include but are not limited to, transmission and distribution pipelines, regulator/take stations, renewable natural gas (RNG) projects, hydrogen projects, peak-shaving facilities (LNG/CNG), and other special capital projects. 

The Lead Project Manager is responsible for careful stewardship and practical management throughout the entire project lifecycle; including the planning, delivery, management, and governance of assigned projects in accordance with National Grid’s Network Development Process (NDP).   High visibility role that involves corresponding with senior staff, executive leadership and external stakeholders; including elected officials and government regulatory authorities.     

Key Accountabilities

  • Create and promote a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and efficient resource utilization throughout the department, the project team(s) and project support groups; including members from Engineering, Construction, Procurement, Contract Management, Project controls, Estimating, Operations, Asset Management, Real Estate, Environmental and other supporting groups.
  • Develop, gain approval of and control of project scope, project budget, schedule, contract documents, and resource plan.
  • Possess working knowledge of project designs, specifications, contract documents, contractor progress, purchase orders, project correspondences, permits, submittals, and all project related documents.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly project reporting, including reports to executive management.
  • Develop and manage current month, fiscal year, and estimate at completion (EAC) forecasts for all projects on a monthly basis.
  • Holding team meetings to drive projects forward, review designs and project plans, identify risks, and resolve issues; generate and distribute meeting minutes and actions.
  • Development of project Request for Proposal (RFP) documentation for projects that will be bid out and constructed by contractor resources.
  • Negotiate and execute contractor change orders.
  • Conduct site visits and site meetings to validate constructability and construction progress.
  • Review and payment of contractor invoices as well as submittal of monthly accrual data.
  • Managing project closeout, including paying final invoices, contractor punch list completion, purchase order completion, work order closure, document archiving, and other activities required to close a project.
  • Assuring cost efficiencies across projects for on-schedule, on budget delivery in alignment with company values, safety objectives, and quality standards.
  • Awareness of working in a union environment.
  • Compliance with environmental, safety and National Grid standards and policies; acquisition of required permits, licenses and land rights;
  • Demonstrate a high level of initiation, integrity and ability to interact with company personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials in a positive collaborative manner.

 

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an engineering discipline and/or significant relevant project management, engineering and construction experience, in all aspects of utility substation/line construction operations.
  • 7+ years’ experience in project management, construction.
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP), preferred.
  • Demonstrate experience with successful delivery of complex projects.
  • Lead high performing teams; ability to foster a high energy environment, whereby team members can openly discuss relevant issues and there is a strong emphasis on continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of gas system operations, gas industry codes/regulations, preferred.
  • Experience with construction, environmental, and/or engineering projects.
  • Change Management experience.
  • Bottom-line oriented, budget-conscious, metric/measurement driven.
  • Experience with Primavera P6, preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Salary

$152,000 - $179,000 a year
