National Grid is hiring a Head of Safety, Health, and Wellbeing. This hybrid position can sit in either our Hicksville, NY, Melville, NY or Brooklyn, NY office.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to support the NGV US business in all aspects of safety, health, and wellbeing management.
Reporting into the NGV SHER central function, you will be embedded into the business unit as a business partner. Working closely with the senior leaders across the NGV US organisation, you will drive safety performance, further mature our safety culture, and ensure high standards of company policy and legislative compliance.
As well as supporting our operational Generation business, you will work closely with business development teams to support an exciting pipeline of growth opportunities, ensuring safety is fully represented in early project development and advising on evolving resource needs. You will also support our Joint Venture interests, working as a point of contact for our partners on health, safety, and wellbeing matters.
Key Accountabilities
- Support the NGV US SLT to deliver optimal SHW performance and cultural maturity across a range of business interests and activities.
- Evolve safety, health, and wellbeing capability in line with business growth, responding to resourcing needs and management system evolution as necessary.
- Act as key point of contact for stakeholders across sites and business activities, fostering strong communications between NGV SHER and NGV US, engaging with Safety Advocates & Union employees, and service providers from the National Grid Regulated business units.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of the global NGV Safety, Health, and Wellbeing strategy, ensuring it is aligned with NGV US business needs.
- Identify emerging safety risks and issues, developing responsive action plans and safety campaigns.
- Drive incident management maturity, improving incident investigation standards and lessons learnt application.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent Health and Safety certification.
- Extensive safety management experience within the energy industry.
- Strong knowledge of occupational safety and health management systems, federal and state regulatory requirements,
- Effective people management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of an organisation.
- An appreciation for electrical, mechanical and/or Process Safety risk management is desirable.
- Valid drivers’ licence.

Salary
$172,000 - $202,000 a year
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
