National Grid is hiring a UX Designer - This position is based from our Warwick office however we offer flexible hybrid working options.
Job Purpose
Join our dynamic team as a User Experience Designer, where you'll have the thrilling opportunity to craft intuitive, engaging, and impactful user experiences that not only meet business objectives but also resonate with user needs. Collaborating closely with product owners, product managers, developers, and other key stakeholders in an Agile/Scrum environment, you'll transform complex business requirements into user-friendly designs, wireframes, prototypes, and stunning high-fidelity visual assets.
Utilising cutting-edge design software, you'll bring front-end experiences to life, sketching innovative visual concepts both on paper and through digital applications. Your mission? What you'll do
- Design intuitive user interfaces and interactions for web and mobile applications that align with user needs and business goals.
- Conduct user research, including personas, journey mapping, and competitive analysis to inform design decisions.
- Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes to illustrate design ideas and user flows.
- Rapidly iterate designs based on user feedback, stakeholder input, and testing results.
- Work closely with product owners, product managers, and developers in a cross-functional Agile/Scrum team to understand business goals and technical constraints.
- Act as an advocate for the end user during product planning and design discussions, ensuring the user experience is prioritised.
- Conduct usability testing, A/B testing, and analyze quantitative/qualitative data to validate design assumptions.
- Implement feedback from testing and stakeholder reviews to optimise user interfaces.
- Contribute to and maintain design systems and guidelines to ensure consistency across all digital products.
- Ensure that designs are aligned with company branding and accessibility standards.
- Actively participate in Agile ceremonies such as daily standups, sprint planning, pi planning and retrospectives.
- Collaborate with the product owner to groom the backlog and prioritise UX tasks based on user and business needs.
- Present design concepts and prototypes to stakeholders and explain design decisions clearly and effectively.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest UX/UI trends, tools, and techniques.
- Continuously seek to improve processes, methodologies, and design practices
About you
- Proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar platforms.
- Understanding of HTML/CSS/JavaScript principles to effectively communicate with developers.
- Familiarity with user research and usability testing tools such as UserTesting, Hotjar, or Google Analytics.
- Strong portfolio showcasing user-centered design processes, UX/UI deliverables, and web/mobile application designs.
- Ability to create wireframes, prototypes, and mockups using industry standard design software.
- Expertise in visual design, information architecture, interaction design, and usability.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum methodologies, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication and presentation skills to effectively convey design concepts and rationale to stakeholders and team members.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £50,000 - £65,000 dependent on capability
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
