National Grid is hiring a Head of Data & AI. This is a hybrid role that can be based out of the Warwick, UK or London, UK office.
Job Purpose
The Head of Data & AI plays a critical leadership role in shaping and executing the organisation's data, information and artificial intelligence (AI) strategy within the Business Unit IT and Digital function. This role is responsible for ensuring that data is effectively managed, governed, and leveraged, while driving AI innovation to enhance business performance, customer experience, operational efficiency and improved business outcomes.
As a strategic leader, the Head of Data & AI will establish a data-driven culture, integrating AI-powered insights and automation into business processes. They will oversee data governance, advanced analytics, and AI adoption and innovation ensuring that ethical, secure, and compliant AI solutions are implemented at scale. They will develop and define roadmaps and continual improvement of the organisation data and AI capabilities across all dimensions of people, process and technology.
The role requires close collaboration with IT, digital, and business teams to unlock value from data and AI, aligning with organisational goals and digital transformation initiatives. By leading a matrixed high-performing team of data individuals including but not limited to engineers, AI specialists, and data scientists, the Head of Data & AI ensures that the organisation stays at the forefront of emerging technologies, innovation, and secure, responsible and ethical AI development.

- Data science (DATS), Applying mathematics, statistics, data mining and predictive modelling techniques to gain insights, predict behaviours and generate value from data. (L6)

About you
- Extensive experience in a senior Data and/or AI leadership role
- Can successfully operate at ‘C’ and Board level, forming strong relationships and engagement as needed across all levels of the Business Entity
- An ability to translate technical concepts into business language and generate understanding and sponsorship of strategies and outcomes.
- An excellent understanding of current and emerging technology best practices and trends
- Experience of working within a heavily matrixed organisation, with the ability to drive for results
- Good understanding and experience of governance, risk, compliance and controls of a Data and AI
- Degree-level qualification, preferably in an analytical or business-oriented discipline like information systems or industrial engineering, alternatively, an equivalent combination of education, training.

What you'll get
A competitive salary of up to £78,0000 to £95,0000 – dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance with on target being 20% (with a maximum of 40%) and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
