National Grid is hiring a Power System Engineer – System Access for our Customer and Network Development Team based in Warwick.
About the role
As Senior Power System Engineer within the System Access Team you will lead and support on the development and management of the Electricity Transmission (ET) outage plan, to safely enable £bns of investment - covering strategic and tactical timeframes and supporting the work to be delivered across the business, to maximise resource productivity, utilisation and plan delivery, whilst ensuring a secure and reliable network. The ET system access plan must support cost, risk and performance outcomes.

What you'll do
Proactively engaging with stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into accessible language, and taking ownership of issues to drive initiatives forward. By collaborating across various engineering functions, you’ll contribute to the development of comprehensive network solutions that align with regulatory requirements and consumer interests, whilst fully exploiting the use of transmission asset ratings in system access plans, balancing asset costs and risks against benefits.
As a Senior Power System Engineer, you will also oversee and mentor team members in Power System studies, conducting detailed technical analysis and developing complex system outage plans to provide access to the electricity transmission system, whilst identifying solutions and strategies to manage system security and minimise transmission constraint costs and risks. You will play a key role in ensuring processes and procedures are fit for purpose and consistently applied across the team.
This role is based in our office in Warwick, and this can be combined with hybrid working from home.
What you'll need
- Good understanding of DigSilent Power Factory network analysis tools including calculation, data management and system interfaces.
- Understanding of Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) and its application in developing investment cases.
- Experience in Power System Planning and system studies.
- Ability to engage with stakeholders and maintain effective communication.
- Strong understanding of outage management and asset management principles.
- Working understanding of the RIIO price control processes.
- Experience in working collaboratively with regulatory bodies and industry technical groups.
You will hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. IET membership and working towards CEng is desirable as is a working understanding of SQSS.

- Annual salary of £61,000 - £68,000.00 per annum based on experience
