National Grid is hiring a Head of Portfolio and Performance. This is a hybrid role that can be based out of the Warwick, UK or London, UK office.
Job Purpose
The Head of Portfolio & Performance Director is responsible for overseeing all IT and Digital portfolio and performance management for a business entity, aligned with the holistic business entity portfolio, value and benefits management, and the CIDO portfolio offices, including oversight and direction of portfolio governance, risk, compliance, quality and benefits management.
This role ensures alignment between the holistic business value stream(s), Digital and IT strategy and business objectives, optimising value delivery and managing the governance of IT and Digital investments. The role requires strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, strategic thinking, and governance expertise to ensure that digital investments and technology initiatives deliver the expected measurable business benefits. This role leads the development of the Business aligned IT and Digital Strategy from concepts through to the inception of investment plans, in line with both Business Entity and IT and Digital demands. Providing the end-to-end leadership for all IT and Digital investments within the Business Entity. Working alongside the Business Entity leadership and IT Delivery Centres to enable sustainable change across the both the local Business Entity and Global Organisation, being a technology thought leader, focused on the end user, ensuring the function is delivering safe, reliable and secure services and solutions.
This role ensures that the Business Entity IT & Digital portfolio performance is visible, measurable, managed and has quality reporting cadence to provide the central IT&D team data, insights and reporting for the Global CIDO visibility throughout the holistic IT & Digital portfolio and performance.

- Financial management (FMIT), Managing the effective use and control of financial resources to support business strategies, compliance and risk mitigation. (L5)
- Demand management (DEMM), Analysing and proactively managing business demand for new services or modifications to existing service features or volumes. (L6)
- Delivery management (DEMG), Ensuring successful delivery of new or updated products and services through effective leadership and collaboration within defined delivery cycles. (L6)
- Innovation Management (INOV), Identifying, prioritising, incubating and exploiting opportunities provided by information, communication and digital technologies. (L7)
- Organisational facilitation (OFCL), Supporting workgroups to implement principles and practices for effective teamwork across organisational boundaries and professional specialisms. (L5)

About you
- Experience of IT strategic, investment and programme planning ensuring alignment with business strategy and priorities
- Has good leadership, relationship, communication and presentation skills combined with a good track record of developing IT Programmes/business change.
- Can successfully operate at ‘C’ and Board level, forming strong relationships and engagement as needed across all levels of the Business Entity
- A good understanding of the business area within which they are operating
- A good understanding of current and emerging technology best practices and trends
- Experience of working within a heavily matrixed organisation, with the ability to drive for results
- A good understanding of financial management, benefits management, measurement and realisation linked to business results
- Good understanding and experience of governance, risk, compliance and controls of a portfolio, programmes, projects and products
- Degree-level qualification, preferably in an analytical or business-oriented discipline like information systems or industrial engineering, alternatively, an equivalent combination of education, training.
What you'll get
A competitive salary of up to £70,0000 to £80,0000 – dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance with on target being 20% (with a maximum of 40%) and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
