National Grid is hiring a Colleague Communication and Engagement Manager to support with transformation for ET (Electricity Transmission).

 

As a Colleague Communication and Engagement Manager you will be responsible for the colleague communications strategy on all change projects, programmes and continuous improvement activities across the ET business unit to ensure they are successfully adopted and embedded. The role will be part of a team helping to bring our purpose, vision, and values to life across the ET business

 

Working closely with the transformation teams, change managers and business stakeholders, you ensure that messages are consistent, on-brand, and tailored to the needs of different audiences. The role involves both strategic communications planning and hands-on content creation across a range of formats and channels.

 

We offer flexible hybrid working arrangements. We’d hope to see you in our Warwick office one or 2 days a week, and there also may be some adhoc travel to different sites.

What you'll do

 

  • Draft, implement, and measure colleague communications and engagement plans for change projects, programmes, and continuous improvement activities within Electricity Transmission, targeted to department-level audiences as required.
  • Partner with the Transformation team to understand employee communications requirements and priorities, ensuring meaningful contact and involvement at the appropriate level.
  • Translate complex transformation initiatives into clear, engaging, and relatable communications.
  • Create communication roadmaps and timelines for change programmes.
  • Identify key stakeholder groups and tailor messages to different audiences.
  • Support change management efforts by embedding storytelling, vision, and rationale for change communications.
  • Develop FAQs, talking points, and manager toolkits to help leaders cascade messages effectively.
  • Coach and support leaders and change champions in communicating effectively with their teams.
  • Provide communication support for transformation programme milestones, announcements, and critical updates.
  • Serve as the lead ET representative for Group-led change programmes, ensuring the involvement of the right subject matter experts.
  • Draft and edit messages and produce engaging content for business-wide and local employee communications channels, including blogs, Grid:home copy, Viva Engage posts, Q&A materials, Teamtalk packs, telephone and video scripts, and presentations.
  • Bring the purpose, vision, and values to life for all colleagues through engaging, insightful, informative, and relevant multi-channel content.
  • Work with the wider Colleague Communication & Engagement team to plan and prioritise activities, clarify appropriate messages, and carry out effective measurement and campaign activities 
  • Work with the business to understand transformation challenges and opportunities, plan and prioritise activities, develop colleague communications and engagement plans, clarify appropriate messages, and evaluate against agreed metrics, applying learnings to future activities.
  • Provide timely, meaningful insight and data on colleague engagement to help the Executive and senior leaders understand colleague sentiment and inform communication planning.
  • Plan and manage leadership events as required.
  • Share best practices across colleague communication and engagement teams to drive engagement and communications across the business.

 

What you'll need

 

  • Proven experience in colleague communications and engagement strategies, content, plans and campaigns, preferably within transformation, change or large-scale projects.
  • In-depth, demonstrable knowledge and experience of all aspects of the internal communication mix, including objective/outcome setting, planning, channel usage, research and measurement.
  • Expert writer, experienced in developing creative multi-channel narrative that engages a wide range of audiences
  • Evidence of flexible writing skills (concise writing, concerned with getting the key messages across quickly and efficiently).
  • Experience of managing company-wide and market sensitive announcements.
  • Expertise, knowledge and experience in copywriting, editing, print, video, social media and web production for business communication.
  • Strong understanding of using, managing and developing innovative colleague communication and engagement channels.
  • Experience running large leadership events, from logistics to content creation.
  • Proven experience of providing colleague communications advice and support in large operational areas.
  • Knowledge and experience of managing emergency/crisis communications procedures.
  • Ability to translate complex safety, financial and performance messages for internal, field-based audience.
  • Experience of supporting and advising senior leaders.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to produce high quality content within tight timescales and under pressure.
  • Excellent attention to detail, ability to be consistent and used to a process of checking and double checking.
  • Creative and innovative and demonstrates the ability to adapt the content and style of communication messages to appeal to specific audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (including negotiation and influencing skills) and demonstrable high standards of literacy.
  • Self-starter, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

What you'll get

 

A competitive salary between £59,000 - £71,000 per annum– dependent on capability.

 

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
