National Grid is hiring a CDM Advisor for our Customer and Network Development Team based in Warwick, London, Bristol Leeds or Warrington.

About the role

 

The job role is primarily to provide a coordination function across the region; providing advice as required to Connection Engineers on CDM related issues. You will assist the regional H&S Advisors with H&S management and ensure that design and CDM coordination, cooperation and communication is during the development phase of large scale utility projects.

 

Acting as a subject matter expert, you’ll provide guidance, consultation, and solutions across a range of topics including project development, documentation content, strategic planning, and training content.  You’ll be a source of expertise providing specialist advice on project development activities, safety by design and for activities such as on-site intrusive surveys.

What you'll do

 

  • Monitor CDM compliance across projects using a mixture of formal audits (I auditor CDM and PD Rep audits), collaborative monitoring with the contractors and informal assessment.
  • Maintaining and updating CDM Strategy across the region.
  • Attendance at Design Review and hazard meetings including reviewing the hazard register and monitoring compliance.
  • Promoting safety in design, including highlighting lessons learnt from previous projects.
  • Providing advice to the region on relevant BP and SR requirements.
  • Ensuring client duties defined in the CDM Regulations are carried out including managing the process for notifying projects to the HSE.
  • Developing, distributing, and managing H&S Files for each project including arranging H&S File review meetings.
  • Reviewing or supporting the review of other project documentation i.e. TW registers, project risk registers and site risk registers

About you

 

  • Thorough knowledge of CDM in Construction & ISO compliance including knowledge of different duty holders’ responsibilities under CDM regulations.
  • You’ll have worked in a comparable industry, or been involved in large scale utility construction projects, site management activities and site delivery.
  • A good understanding of CDM Regulations, specifically in relation to Client, Principal Designer & Principal Contractor role.
  • Experienced in the management and review of Contract documentation and awareness of Professional Services Framework Contracts (NEC4).
  • Ability to communicate and influence effectively at all organisational levels (including Senior Managers) & support the project teams in CDM.
  • Ability to recommend preventative action, develop new initiatives and co-ordinate or ensure their implementation. Experienced in auditing and root cause analysis techniques
  • A thorough understanding of the requirements of UK Health and Safety legislation generally, construction related Regulations and HSE Guidance specifically. 
  • H&S qualification - IOSH or NEBOSH Construction certificate or SMSTS.
  • Full driving licence which allows you to drive in the UK.

Salary of £54,000 - £58,000 dependant on experience
