This is an exciting role for a Quantity Surveyor to join projects working on the Great Grid Upgrade. Within this role you will advise the delivery and management teams on best practice for Contract Management, particularly for construction contract’s whilst being responsible for Cost Assurance activities to ensure all costs for assigned portfolio of projects are reviewed.
We are currently recruiting for projects based in Midlands, North of England, and North west of England / North Wales. Regular travel will be required to the project site.
Our customers include everyone who uses electricity in England and Wales. Acting on behalf of these people, you’ll help ensure that we deliver our projects in the most commercially effective way.

About you
What we do isn’t just important – it’s essential. That’s why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we’re looking for someone who:
- Methodical and process driven, you are good at gathering data and information to accurately assess an issue or event. When you do arrive at a contractual decision you can back your own judgement, confident that you have completed all the necessary steps. You are also an effective communicator who’s unafraid to ask for help.
- You have a degree in quantity surveying or a related discipline such as construction management or construction law. You have previous experience as an Associate or Junior Quantity Surveyor and a strong understanding of NEC contracts.
- Ideally you have experience on infrastructure projects, but this isn’t essential. For example, you might have a contractor or consultant background.
- You also have a driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK. You are able to travel to site as and when required, and have the flexibility to work from home, a National Grid office, or site.

What you'll do
· Collate and report on costs for the assigned portfolio of projects, ensuring reviews and robust challenges of the Target and Actual costs submitted by the Contractors are carried out to deliver value for money.
· Ensure contract compliance, through effective contract management activities; support the Project Delivery teams in producing all necessary contract instructions and communications for the assigned project portfolio.
· Provide contract support, guidance and advice to the Project Delivery teams, to ensure compliance and contractor costs are robustly managed across the portfolio of projects.
· Attend construction sites regularly to review and monitor Contractor progress of the assigned portfolio of projects in order to verify their costs, compensation events and identify early warnings, via robust challenges. Assist and monitor appropriate risk mitigation methodologies.
· Ensure cost review and risk reduction meetings are held with the Contractors and the Project Delivery teams for the portfolio of assigned projects, ensuring compliance with the contract terms and conditions and deliver the desired cost outcome to support the outperformance of regulatory frameworks.
· Support the annual reconciliation audits through completing pre-audit site visits for the agreed project portfolio, in addition to providing necessary and audit reconciliation activity to certify earned value and actual spend against the agreed projects in the portfolio.
· Ensure commercial and financial processes and procedures are adhered to during the delivery of the projects in the assigned portfolio.
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £54,000 - £60,000 – dependent on capability.
