The Strategic Infrastructure (SI) business unit has been established to initially deliver 17 new major projects in the UK, as well as other strategic projects to help us deliver on our net zero ambitions and help the UK Government meet its target of 50GW of renewable energy by 2030.
That's why we're seeking an experienced Planning and Performance Manager to join our SI Offshore engineering team, however, the role will work across the entire SI project portfolio, coordinating and managing system access and critical resource requirements across the SI portfolio of projects (Onshore and Offshore).
As a Planning and Performance Manager, you'll lead a team accountable for managing and optimising SI’s system access and critical resource requirements across the full portfolio of projects, covering all planning timescales from current year through to strategic timescales, to ensure deliverability for all enabling, construction and commissioning works.
You will drive performance improvements by analysing planning performance data, holding project delivery teams to account, on compliance to planning processes and procedures, as well as finding and implementing efficiencies in the coordination and implementation of SI’s requirements.
The role will also require effective stakeholder engagement and management skills, working with critical JV partners, contractors and suppliers, as well as our various internal and external stakeholders and project teams.
In this role you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home. You'll be flexible to regular travel throughout England and Scotland, depending on the project.
Key accountabilities
- Provide technical input into the prioritisation, sequencing and interfaces of various project works in a geographical region, to ensure accurate, timely and efficient use of system access and critical resources.
- Ensure all requests for system access and critical resources are checked and validated, to ensure completeness and accuracy of requirements, acting as a governance and compliance team, on behalf of SI, prior to submission into the core planning systems.
- Manage, produce and present performance reporting, down to project level, for compliance to planning process and procedures.
- Responsible for the management and coordination of change and escalated work prioritisation, in all planning timescales.
- Act as the point of contact and escalation for changes or revisions to system access arrangements and represent SI on all relevant prioritisation forums.
- Co-ordinate across all project delivery teams to ensure prioritised work is delivered in the correct sequence, in relation to system access requirements.
- Build an effective centralised planning coordination team and establish appropriate ways of working.
- Line management of the Outage and Resource Planning Team.
About you
- Knowledge and experience of the High Voltage plant and equipment used on the Transmission network, as well as scheme work delivery and planning processes within National Grid. Experience of providing clarity of direction for the team and engaging them with change is key, as is a track record of working with stakeholders/customers and building effective relationships.
- Knowledge of NG Safety Rules, National Safety Instructions and Working Procedures as well as a NEBOSH General certificate or equivalent. Ideally qualified to a Minimum HNC or equivalent in an engineering discipline with engineering experience of interfacing with multiple stakeholders.
- Significant demonstrable experience in planning management.
- Effective people management and communication skills, coupled with the ability to interrogate performance data and drive continuous improvement. Experience in leading a dispersed multi-disciplined team with the ability to coach and challenge at all levels of the business is key.
- Experienced at implementing change to embed and sustain new behaviours and ways of working, you will have a strong commercial understanding and the ability to drive down unit costs through analysis of performance data and by continuous improvement.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Experience of OPEX and CAPEX budget management.
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £64,000 – £85,000 – dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a job requirement car, a bonus of up to 30% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
