National Grid is hiring a Performance and Development Process Manager to lead on the development and delivery of solutions for our leaders and colleagues. This is a varied role that requires you to be highly experienced in leadership development and performance management best practice; external and internal stakeholder relationship management; project and programme management; communications; and performance measurement and evaluation.

The role requires an individual who can work with overlapping complexities, differing geographical requirements, and a future-fit approach to performance and development.

 

 

This role will be based from our London office (located at the Strand) and you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home.

What you'll do

 

  • Take the lead for the strategy, design, development and deployment of Performance Management, ensuring approach is focussed on supporting our group strategic ambitions, inspiring the right behaviours and fully aligned to the expectations of our Manager Essentials framework.
  • Work with the People Digital Transformation programme team, Global Talent Manager, Global Technical Training team, and others to help advance the Performance and Development strategic ambitions including transitioning to a skills-based organisation.
  • Work with others across the team, other Centres of Excellence and People Business Partners to inform strategic and operational discussions, providing key insights and supporting with the preparation for key stakeholder meetings (leadership meetings, special projects, etc.) using your in-depth knowledge of our leadership and colleague populations and their development needs.
  • Conduct research and analysis and prepare best practice guidance on performance and development projects and processes. This should include being able to bring extensive knowledge of different learning providers and best practice thinking and learning solutions to the P&D offering.
  • Develop, maintain and embed leadership development tools and processes; work with stakeholders (e.g. HR Technology, People Partners, procurement) to ensure new solutions fit with the People Strategy.
  • Collaborate with HR teams and leaders to provide analysis and guidance on programmes and solutions for leaders and colleagues around our Manager Essentials. Generate ideas, identify and propose solutions to meet business needs in the performance and leadership space and support the People Partners with the implementation of the solutions in their business areas.

 

Performance Management

 

  • You will be responsible for designing the strategy and execution of our enhanced Performance Management approach and associated processes
  • You will be responsible for understanding the intricacies of programme design and be able to flex the future strategy and design as required to meet leaders, colleagues, and business units where they’re at and respond to changing business requirements.
  • Stakeholder Management at all levels of the organisation and with external learning providers and partners.
  • Comms & Branding – Lead on designing and producing comms for all elements of Performance Management, including and not limited to: info packs; virtual presentations and updates; emails; workshops, and other meetings and calls.
  • Training and events – Lead on designing, planning and organisation of training and learning interventions, working across multiple populations and locations
  • Finances and Invoicing – managing the budget for performance and development programmes, keeping meticulous records to ensure colleagues receive excellent value and to ensure that we can cross-charge efficiently.
  • Reporting, Tracking and Evaluation
  • Designing and tracking programme criteria to ensure ongoing effectiveness and value

 

What you'll need

  • Big-picture focus coupled with a strong attention to detail. This role constantly moves rapidly between a strategic, big-picture viewpoint through to being involved in the fine details of programmes and deliverables.
  • You’ll be a natural energiser who can bring groups together and lead calls, conversations and discussions.
  • Strong communicator, able to listen critically and translate complex ideas for a wide-range of stakeholders, combined with an ability to work well with others and build relationships across the team, the People function and the business, and a willingness to both give and receive constructive feedback
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity.
  • Proactivity and tenacity. Take the lead with decisions and hold others to account to ensure that all activities are completed in a way that makes sense and takes into account evolving requirements.
  • Strong customer-service focus throughout all work activities, building credibility to be seen to be delivering as a trusted partner to all stakeholders.
  • Strong expertise in performance management and leadership development and ability to lean in and join the dots with emergent knowledge/challenges/opportunities and raise these with the key stakeholders as required.
  • A learning mind-set, with a willingness to ‘muck in’ on multiple topics across the talent sphere and a comfort with working in rapidly changing environments with short turnaround schedules
  • Demonstrated problem-solving experience; able to break subjects down logically, analyse cause and effect, and generate well-reasoned solutions; and able to deploy a results-focused mindset
  • Degree level qualification or related experience in Human Resources
  • Prior 5 – 10 years’ experience in global business environments working with all levels of the organisation, senior stakeholders, and external partners
  • Expert knowledge of Learning and Development solutions and Performance Management, with experience and expertise in project management, programme design and delivery and facilitation

 

 

 

What you'll get

 

A competitive salary between £61,000 - £74,000 per annum – dependent on capability.

 

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
