We are expanding our project team and looking for a Project Manager / Lead Project Manager to support the HVDC link project connecting Scottish offshore wind energy into National Grid’s transmission network. HVDC link project is delivered as a joint venture by National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) and Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks Transmission (SSENT).
This key role will support detailed design and construction of the proposed HVDC converter station in West Norfolk region. This role will be crucial in growing our team, overseeing the design and construction of an HVDC Converter station in England, which will link Scotland and England.
Within this role, you will be making use of your engineering and project management acumen by leading on the design of the electricity transmission system of the future across functional teams ensuring a smooth project delivery by working closely with our appointed technology provider to deliver a successful outcome.
We offer a hybrid role working arrangement with a requirement to travel for meetings to various locations (e.g., Birmingham, London, Manchester) as project needs dictate & to attend site in Lincolnshire & Norfolk region. There may be some travel required to other locations including Scotland, around the UK or abroad to meet with suppliers / delivery partners.
About you

- Has proven ability to manage diverse project delivery models, including ECI to delivery stage, traditional design, and Design & Build (D&B) projects.
- Has strong understanding of Electrical & Mechanical (E&M) engineering principles within building services.
- Is proficient in project scoping and contract management (NEC or FIDIC preferred) & budgetary control and financial management.
- Has a good understanding of consenting, planning, and environmental management processes.
- Has a proven track record in building strong, enduring, and effective relationships with key delivery partners within electricity transmission or similar highly regulated industries.
- Has demonstrable experience in construction project delivery and on-site management.
What you'll do
The role will require you to deliver / manage:
- Manage the project through ECI, detailed design and delivery.
- Act as Interface Project Manager between disciplines, lead project teams and maintain positive relationships.
- Lead coordination/review meetings (internally and externally).
- Manage/Coordinate Civils and MEP aspects of the project(s) (planning/budgeting/design/execution/handover)
- Communicate regularly with clients/stakeholders to provide updates/address issues.
- Develop, implement, and manage project delivery, design, safety by design, commissioning, scheme closure and post-completion requirements as required to successfully deliver the project.
- Monitor and control the investment throughout the process providing regular project monthly status reports (including SHE performance, milestone progress, risk management) and accurate and timely financial forecasting information to support regulatory reporting, and business and capital planning.
- Manage and co-ordinate Contractors and project teams to successfully deliver projects to time, cost and specification and with minimal disruption.
- Monitor Contractor site activities to ensure compliance with National Grid and the JV’s SHES standards, Health & Safety, Environmental legislation and CDM regulations.
- Produce all required project documentation, ensuring governance is maintained throughout the investment process whilst also demonstrating the implementation of lessons learned and best practice.
- Manage the Contractor commissioning and performance testing process on site. Ensure the provision of accurate ‘as built’ documentation to handover of the assets onto the system to the standards defined in the design.
- Act as the NEC / FIDIC Project Manager as required.
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £55,000 - £69,000 – dependent on capability.
