Lead Cost Manager
GB
About The Role
Brand New Role – Permanent – Hybrid Working Using Birmingham & London Offices
Great Britain's electricity infrastructure is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come.
Our Great Grid Partnership (GGP) Commercial and Cost Director joined us earlier this year and is growing his team who are based across the U.K.
As part of this growth our Head of Cost Management has joined working from our Glasgow office.
And we now have a Lead Cost Manager role available who will report into our Head of Cost Management.
As our Lead Cost Manager, you’ll overlap with our new Commercial Performance Manager bringing your experience from construction or large infrastructure, possibly from a Quantity Surveying background.
You’ll utilise the insights provided from better data management and help drive improvements by using your strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
You’ll likely bring your knowledge and experience built up through your exposure to large infrastructure or major construction projects, using it to influence multiple major projects happening as part of the Great Grid Upgrade.
These roles are very hybrid as our team are based across the UK. Our Head of Cost Management is Scotland based and our Director is London based and we have team members in between!
As Lead Cost Manager you’ll likely need to be accessible to attend our Birmingham or London offices 1 – 2 days per week to build relationships and influence the improvements you are seeking.
We continue to offer hybrid working from office and home and currently the vast majority of activity is completed from a home basis.
We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

- Relishes fostering excellent teamwork. You’ll make decisions based on the greater good and carefully consider the communities you are working in.
Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid, we’re committed to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace for everyone. So if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. Additionally you will:

- Ensure visible and accessible communications are in place throughout the life of a project, such as safety charters and notifications of incidents and lessons learnt. You will also share good practices and reinforce positive behaviours.
- Quickly get projects back on track if they slow down, mindful that any slippages will adversely affect the portfolio as a whole.
- Utilise value engineering to reduce costs whilst remaining within scope.
- Look after your projects’ safety, health, environment, security and quality obligations, adhering to all relevant internal and external policies and regulations.
- Act with fairness and honesty in your communications. When things aren’t going to plan you will share your learnings, and when they are you will celebrate your team’s successes.
