As we build the projects that will deliver the UK’s energy transition, we’re looking for a brilliant Investment Case Manager to lead a team that drives the creation of robust business cases for our early-stage development portfolio. You’ll play a pivotal role in enabling clean energy solutions - both onshore and offshore - across the UK.
In this leadership role, you will:
- Oversee the creation of Business Cases that are economically viable and socially beneficial.
- Collaborate closely with project development teams and subject matter experts (e.g. regulation, market analytics, consenting, finance) and senior leadership at National Grid.
- Ensure that every project is underpinned by a strong, high quality, auditable business case that represents a single version of the truth.
You’ll also be responsible for:
- Driving improvements in our frameworks and methodologies for Business Case development.
- Leading initiatives to embed best practise across teams as we strive to be world-class in our portfolio development approach.
- Capturing and communicating the value of our work to internal and external stakeholders.
This role is based at our Warwick office which has free onsite parking, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home.
Leveraging this hybrid working, this team currently work around 1 day per week in the office, which is dependent on personal and business needs.

You'll be experienced in developing business cases and benefit models (e.g. cost benefit analysis models) to assess project delivery options. With excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, you will have the ability and confidence to communicate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation. Gathering and synthesising evidence to draw insights and make recommendations, you'll demonstrate excellent written, verbal, presentation, and communication skills.
Experience/ knowledge of the energy sector is not essential, but what is essential is curiosity, appetite for learning and a passion for the work National Grid and particularly Strategic Infrastructure in boosting our capacity to reach Net Zero.

What You'll Do
Your role is broadly defined by 6 keys areas.
Lead Investment Case Development
- Drive the creation of robust, high-quality Business Cases for early-stage development (both onshore and offshore).
- Ensure each case is economically viable, strategically aligned, and socially beneficial.
- Support and assure the development of Business Cases for maturing projects as they move through the project life-cycle and governance process (BP500-SI/ET).
- Tailor societal benefit cases to a project’s audience and location and align to the needs of the region, such as factories, skills or jobs.
- Lead robust, evidence-based market analysis including market scanning to discover opportunities to provide infrastructure solutions.
Team Leadership and Management
- Manage and develop a small team of Investment Case Leads.
- Foster a high-performance culture focussed on quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure the team’s outputs contribute meaningfully to the long-term strategy of the business unit.
- Champion a positive, inclusive work culture that support team wellbeing and work-life balance.
- Actively contribute to the organisation’s diversity, equity and inclusion goals.
Strategic Collaboration
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including project development, regulation, market analytics, consenting, finance and senior leadership.
- Act as a key point of contact for Business Case matters across the organisation.
Governance and Assurance
- Ensure all Business Cases meet internal governance standards and provide a single auditable version of the truth.
- Contribute to investment approvals and decision-making forums with clear, evidence-base recommendations.
Framework Development and Continuous Improvement
- Establish and influence frameworks, methodologies, and tools to support consistent and world-class Business Case development.
- Identify and implement improvements to drive excellence across the portfolio, including the use of digital tooling in an innovative, engaging way.
- Align business case development with broader organisational goals and the UK’s Net Zero ambition.
Value Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
- Clearly articulate the value and impact of projects to internal stakeholders, including senior leaders.
- Support the preparation of material for board and executive review.
What You'll Get
A competitive startig salary between £68,000 – £78,000 – dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 30% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. For example if you put in 6%, Grid will put in 12%, totalling 18%.
