We are expanding our project team and looking for an Associate Project Manager to support the HVDC link project connecting Scottish offshore wind energy into National Grid’s transmission network. HVDC link project is delivered as a joint venture by National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) and Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks Transmission (SSENT).
This key role will support detailed design and construction of the proposed HVDC converter station in West Norfolk region. This role will be crucial in growing our team, overseeing the design and construction of an HVDC Converter station in England, which will link Scotland and England.
Within this role, you will be making use of your engineering and project management acumen by leading on the design of the electricity transmission system of the future across functional teams ensuring a smooth project delivery by working closely with our appointed technology provider to deliver a successful outcome.

- Experience in large-scale projects and joint ventures within Energy, Water or Rail sectors.
- Ability to managing diverse project delivery models, including ECI to delivery stage, traditional design, and Design & Build (D&B) projects.
- Capability in design management and project coordination.
- Proficient in project scoping and contract management (NEC or FIDIC preferred).
- Understanding of consenting, planning, and environmental management processes.
- Client-side experience & Stakeholder engagement.
- HNC / HND / Degree in Electrical /Electronic /Mechanical engineering or Civil Engineering qualification.
We offer a hybrid role working arrangement with a requirement to travel for meetings to various locations (e.g., Birmingham, London, Manchester) as project needs dictate & to attend site in West Norfolk region. There may be some travel required to other locations including Scotland, around the UK or abroad to meet with suppliers / delivery partners.
What you'll do
As an Associate Project Manager, you will be a key support for the project delivery team, contributing to the successful execution of HVDC projects. Your role will involve assisting with various project management responsibilities, with a focus on coordination, communication, and ensuring all project elements stay on track.
The role will require you to deliver and manage:
- Support the management and coordination of design and delivery phase, including planning, budgeting, and execution.
- Maintain regular communication with clients and stakeholders, providing updates and addressing any issues that arise.
- Act as an interface between contractors, managing relationships and ensuring smooth communication and coordination within the joint venture partnership.
- Lead on the design element of projects, coordinating with design teams and stakeholders to ensure design requirements are met.
- Assist in the development and implementation of project delivery plans, design, commissioning, and scheme closure requirements, ensuring health and safety is integrated from design to delivery, in compliance with CDM regulations.
- Aid in monitoring project investment and contribute to the preparation of monthly status reports, including financial forecasting information.
- Collaborate with contractors and project teams to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and to specification.
- Help produce and organise required project documentation, maintaining governance throughout the process.
- Support the on-site commissioning and performance testing processes for contractors.
- Act as the NEC / FIDIC Project Manager as required.
What you'll get in return
A competitive salary between £47,000 - £55,000 – dependent on capability.
