About the role
National Energy System Operator (NESO) is on a journey towards a sustainable and secure energy future. Together we build on this momentum, advancing the Electricity System Operator’s (ESO) plan for zero carbon operability of the electricity system by 2025.
This role sits at the heart of the Corporate Affairs, which is responsible for managing the reputation of NESO, working across the whole business to coordinate and plan our external communication activity.
You will support the Corporate Communications team in developing a Content strategy by creating content in engaging formats e.g. video and infographics to deliver across our corporate channels including social media and website.
You will work closely with the other content lead to deliver content that articulates NESO’s external messaging over several digital channels, and make it accessible to a wide audience.
You will use NESO’s comms planning grid to advise ongoing projects on suitable social media and content options to support publications, announcements and project milestones.
You will work closely with colleagues across Corporate Affairs and across NESO to find new positive stories to tell about the world leading projects and services being developed by NESO.
We care about the impact of our work at NESO, so reporting and evaluating campaign performance will also be part of your work.
The Corporate Affairs team plays a crucial strategic role in helping the business achieve its goals. We work with every single team in the business, interacting with colleagues at all levels. It’s a busy, valued and supportive team to work in.
This role is based from Warwick and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop and deliver a range of engaging social media assets including images, videos and carousels using tools such as Canva and Bitly
- Work with our other Content Lead to deliver NESO’s content strategy.
- Support the delivery of a cross channel forward plan for content to be published across social media, website and newsletters
- Identify opportunities for targeted communications and horizon scan for news opportunities around major project milestones
- Support the coordination of the weekly NESO newsletter, including content creation, data and segmentation management, new subscriber journey and performance evaluation
- Maintain and develop NESO’s social media platforms, continuously growing following and engagement, as well as exploring new opportunities
- Report monthly on communication metrics for social media and newsletters, highlighting successes and suggest areas of improvement
- Utilise Pulsar social listening platform to analyse emerging themes and key influencers that can help shape our work
- Create and publish news for our website, and work with Digital Team to ensure website content is up to date and the homepage reflects our key strategic priorities
- Monitor internal requests for support/advice from Corporate Affairs and triage any speaking requests and other enquiries to relevant members of the Corporate Affairs directorate.
About you
- Ability to create digital content e.g. videos, blogs and graphics
- Experience of strategic planning and communication campaigns
- Knowledge of Social Media listening tools, campaign monitor (or similar e-marketing tool), CRM software and CMS editing tools
- Curiosity to explore new techniques and learn new approaches
- Ability to translate technical information into accessible, compelling copy
- Passion for data and statistics to help us improve
- Great stakeholder relationship building skills
- Ability to prioritise, manage and influence, and are ok with ambiguity
- Proactive approach, adaptable, organised and keen to get involved
About what you’ll get
A competitive salary between £47,000 – 57,000 – dependent on experience and capability.

About the National Energy System Operator (NESO)
In Autumn of 2024, the ESO transitioned to National Energy System Operator, or NESO for short. Previously denoted as the Future System Operator (or FSO), the new National Energy System Operator is the independent body responsible for planning Great Britain’s electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system.
The ESO, including all of its existing roles, are now at the heart of the new National Energy System Operator. As NESO, we will build on our existing roles, capabilities, and ways of working significantly to create an organisation the energy system and its users’ need. Our new capabilities will enable us to look across vectors, including electricity, natural gas and hydrogen, and crucially consider the trade-offs between them.
The organisation is set up as a public corporation with its own Board of independent directors, with complete operational independence from government, the regulator and any and all commercial interest. As was the ESO, NESO will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem through price control agreements and obligated to identify optimal solutions to system operations and planning in the most sustainable, affordable and secure way for all.
