Division:  NESO Strategic Spatial Energy Planning
Job Type:  Full Time
Requisition Number:  68917
Department:  ESO
Job Function:  Corporate Affairs and Communications
Description:

About the role

National Energy System Operator (NESO) recognises the potential of bright and talented individuals, and we encourage you to join us as Great Britain’s energy system undergoes an ambitious, exciting, and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

In Strategic Energy Planning we take a long-term approach to planning, that identifies whole energy system needs and ensures that the system can be designed and built accordingly.  This role sits within the Strategic Energy Planning stakeholder engagement team. This team is responsible for collaborating with internal colleagues to plan and deliver coordinated strategic engagement with identified key stakeholder groups for NESO’s strategic plans.

The role will focus on supporting engagement for two important areas within Strategic Energy Planning - NESO’s Clean Power 2030  role and Zero Carbon Operations.  You will support engagement with key internal and external stakeholders on the Clean Power 2030 Implementation Plan which sets out NESO’s activities related to delivery of CP30. You will also support engagement across the Zero Carbon Operation team, which has a critical role ensuring the electricity system stays operable as it decarbonises.

In this team, you will be able to see your work contribute to a fast-paced, dynamic project that has a high profile within NESO, the energy industry and beyond. It’s an exciting time to work in the energy sector and CP30 is not only a NESO priority but also one of the 5 Government missions.

This role can be based from Wokingham, Warwick or Glasgow and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

About us

National Energy System Operator (NESO) has a key role to play in tackling climate change by transitioning GB’s electricity system to net zero. We already operate the fastest decarbonising electricity system in the world, with an ambition for zero carbon power operation by 2030 when there is sufficient renewable generation. We are also providing advice to the Government on achieving a decarbonised power system by 2030.

So, join the energy transformation and help shape the future.

Your energy, our future, together.

About the National Energy System Operator (NESO)

In Autumn of 2024, the ESO transitioned to National Energy System Operator, or NESO for short. Previously denoted as the Future System Operator (or FSO), the new National Energy System Operator is the independent body responsible for planning Great Britain’s electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system.

The ESO, including all of its existing roles, are now at the heart of the new National Energy System Operator. As NESO, we will build on our existing roles, capabilities, and ways of working significantly to create an organisation the energy system and its users’ need. Our new capabilities will enable us to look across vectors, including electricity, natural gas and hydrogen, and crucially consider the trade-offs between them.

The organisation is set up as a public corporation with its own Board of independent directors, with complete operational independence from government, the regulator and any and all commercial interest. As was the ESO, NESO will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem through price control agreements and obligated to identify optimal solutions to system operations and planning in the most sustainable, affordable and secure way for all.

The time to deliver is now. As part of our team, you won’t just be touching the lives of almost everyone in Great Britain – you’ll be shaping the way we use and consume energy for generations to come.

Key Accountabilities

  • Design and deliver high quality and creative engagement material which may include briefings, video, content and presentation material.
  • Develop and maintain an external stakeholder engagement framework aligning engagement across Strategic Energy Planning. This may include planning, organisation and delivery of events.
